Khaberni - Hong Kong authorities have arrested a 54-year-old man, accused of posting personal data and financial information related to his former boss on the internet for the purpose of revenge, and without obtaining his consent, according to what the city's Privacy Protection Commission announced.
The Commission revealed, in a statement issued today Friday, that the suspect was a former employee of the company where the victim worked, and managed its social media accounts during the period from November 2023 to May 2024.
He was also in charge of several chat groups created by the company and its subsidiaries on an instant messaging application for the purpose of promoting their businesses.
The Commission clarified that the case, which falls under the category of "doxxing" crimes (publishing personal information without permission), came to light in early March of last year, after a set of photos and documents related to the victim were detected being posted in two of the chat groups.
The published material included two photos of a loan agreement showing the victim as a borrower, alongside five legal documents showing him and his companies as defendants in civil lawsuits, as well as a video clip showing his face while reading the loan agreement.
The disclosed data included the victim's name in Chinese, his Hong Kong ID card number, his local and registered phone numbers in China, as well as his bank account number in a Chinese bank and the names of his company and its subsidiaries.
The Privacy Protection Commission confirmed that the suspect had been released on bail, while authorities continue their investigations into the incident.
