Khaberni - The Syrian Foreign Ministry expressed its "appreciation" to the United States for supporting Syria and its people on Thursday, after the Security Council voted in favor of an American resolution to lift sanctions on President Ahmad Al-Shar’a, prior to his anticipated visit to Washington next week.
Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Sheibani posted on the X platform, "Syria expresses its appreciation to the United States and friendly countries for their support of Syria and its people."
He considered that Syrian diplomacy reaffirms "its effective presence and its ability to achieve steady progress in removing obstacles and paving the way towards a more open and stable Syrian future."
Later, the Syrian Foreign Ministry stated in an announcement that the decision "reflects increasing confidence in President Al-Shar’a’s leadership," expressing its "appreciation for the member states of the Security Council on their unified stance."
The resolution, supported by 14 members of the Council, stated, “The Council has decided to remove Ahmad Al-Shar’a... and (Interior Minister) Anas Hasan Khattab from the sanctions list” targeting individuals and groups associated with the terrorist organizations ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
China abstained from voting.
