Khaberni - A senior US government official stated that the United Nations Security Council will begin on Thursday negotiations on a resolution drafted by the United States to support President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, which will grant a two-year mandate to a transitional governing body and an international force to achieve stabilization.

The United States officially distributed the draft resolution to the fifteen members of the council late on Wednesday, and stated that the text enjoys regional support from Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE.

An American administration official said, "The message is: If the region is with us on this, and in how this resolution is drafted, then we believe the council should be as well."

Ambassador Mike Waltz posted on "X": "America is achieving tangible results at the United Nations.. This is real leadership - paving the way for more humanitarian aid, repatriating all abductees to their homes, and paving the way for a safe and prosperous Gaza."

Meanwhile, two sources familiar with the talks said that Hamas militants in the Rafah area controlled by Israel in Gaza will surrender their weapons in exchange for permission to move to other areas of the sector under a proposal to solve a problem seen as a threat to the ongoing month-long ceasefire.

Since the US-mediated ceasefire came into effect in Gaza on October 10, the Rafah area has experienced at least two attacks on Israeli forces, which Israel blamed on Hamas, while the movement denied responsibility for the attacks.

One of the sources, an Egyptian security official, said that the Egyptian mediators proposed that the fighters still in Rafah surrender their weapons to Egypt and provide details about the tunnels there so that they can be destroyed in exchange for a safe passage.

The two sources mentioned that Israel and Hamas have not yet accepted the mediator's proposals. A third source confirmed that talks on this issue are ongoing.
