Khaberni - Recent research has shown that adherence to heart health metrics, "the 8 essential elements of life," is closely linked to maintaining a healthy brain size, and that type 2 diabetics with a genetic risk of dementia can significantly reduce their likelihood of cognitive issues by adopting a healthy heart lifestyle.

According to "Health Day," ideal cardiovascular health is associated with a 15% lower risk of cognitive decline in type 2 diabetics.

Heart Health

The findings by researcher Yelena Yoshide from Tulane University in New Orleans found that the risk of dementia in those most susceptible decreased by 27% through improved heart health outcomes.

The risk of cognitive decline and dementia is a concern for millions of adults with type 2 diabetes.

However, based on an analysis of data from 40,000 people from the UK Biobank records, it has been shown that adherence to the 8 elements for heart protection provides good protection for diabetics from dementia.

The 8 Factors

The 8 factors are divided into two sections, 4 healthy behaviors and 4 essential health factors for optimal heart function:

1. Eat healthy food.

2. Be more active.

3. Quit smoking.

4. Get healthy sleep.

5. Control your weight.

6. Manage your cholesterol.

7. Control your blood sugar.

8. Manage your blood pressure.
