Khaberni - The Amman Criminal Court concluded an unprecedented case, convicting a government driver of the crimes of human trafficking and solicitation of bribery, after he exploited his work in accompanying anti-begging committees to extort beggars in exchange for allowing them to beg without prosecution.
The court decided to sentence him to 4 years and 7 months of hard labor and fine him 5,000 dinars, after reducing the sentence from 7 years due to the victims' waiver of personal claims.
The investigations revealed that the defendant had been demanding weekly amounts from the beggars for "protection" and warning them of campaigns, before he was arrested by the anti-human trafficking unit.
