Khaberni - The British police have started an extensive search campaign for two prisoners who were released by mistake from "Wandsworth" prison in the capital London, in two separate incidents, raising wide controversy and questions about the efficiency of the British prison system.

The London police announced that one of those mistakenly released is a 24-year-old Algerian national, released at the end of October last year, while it took the prison administration six days before they informed the police of the grave administrative error.

In a subsequent incident, the police reported that they are also looking for another prisoner who was released from the same prison last Monday, calling on citizens to provide any information that may help locate him.

This development comes just weeks after a three-day search operation launched by the British police following the wrongful release of an Ethiopian migrant named "Hadush Kebado," who had been arrested on charges of harassing a 14-year-old girl and an adult woman while she was staying in an asylum seeker's hotel in the Epping area of Essex county.

The police were able to re-arrest "Kebado" on October 26 in the "Finsbury Park" area in North London, before he was deported to Ethiopia, while the British authorities issued a formal apology for the incident, and promised to carry out urgent reforms to strengthen oversight and prevent such mistakes from recurring.

Investigations revealed that the first prisoner who was mistakenly released is Ibrahim Kaddur Shareef, who is listed in the sexual offenders' registry, after he was convicted in November 2024 of "indecent behavior," and was sentenced to 18 months of community service, with his name included in the sex offender registry for five years.

These repeated incidents have increased pressure on the Ministry of Justice and the prison administration in Britain, with escalating parliamentary calls for a comprehensive investigation into the security and administrative gaps that allowed the repeated wrongful release of prisoners convicted of serious crimes.
