Khaberni - The UAE described the joint statement of the Quartet on Sudan as a "historic step" in the efforts to end the crisis, precisely diagnosing the nature of the crisis and outlining a clear roadmap for addressing it through a humanitarian truce followed by a civilian transition of power, reaffirming that there is no military solution to the Sudanese crisis, and noting that regional and international consensus on the Quartet represents significant support for the peace process and Sudan’s unity.
The UAE affirmed its full support for regional and international efforts to impose an immediate humanitarian truce and a comprehensive ceasefire in Sudan, which would allow aid to reach those affected and put an end to the ongoing suffering of civilians since the outbreak of the civil war.
The UAE condemned and deeply deplored the humanitarian violations and horrific crimes committed against civilians in various parts of Sudan affected by the civil war, including the city of Al Fasher, stating that targeting civilians, residential areas, and vital facilities in all areas experiencing military confrontations constitutes a serious escalation and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, and all humanitarian values and principles.
In the same context, the statement noted that the horrific attacks the country witnessed represent a crime against humanity, requiring a unified and firm international stance, emphasizing the need for the warring parties to take full responsibility for protecting civilians, and ensuring urgent and safe access to humanitarian aid without obstacles, reiterating that exploiting human suffering or aid for political or military purposes is unacceptable and condemned.
The UAE renewed its firm position calling for an immediate ceasefire, adoption of a political solution, and comprehensive national dialogue as the sole path to ending the civil war, preserving Sudan’s unity and stability, and supporting regional and international efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people.
