Khaberni - The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that BMW in North America has recalled 5361 vehicles, according to what was reported by “Bloomberg” agency today Wednesday.
The recall includes a number of “BMW X5” cars from the 2000 and 2001 model years, due to containing “Takata PSDI-4” airbags which may potentially have a defect in the inflators.
The administration clarified that "the inflator might explode when the airbag deploys due to the deterioration of the propellant material from prolonged exposure to moisture and temperature changes", which could lead to metal fragments being hurled that may cause serious injuries or death to the driver and passengers.
BMW confirmed that its dealers will inspect the airbags and replace them free of charge to ensure the safety of the users.
