Khaberni - The Greater Irbid Municipality and Think Association signed a partnership agreement to establish and operate the first dog shelter in Irbid Governorate.
The Greater Irbid Municipality provided the land designated for the project, while the association will be fully equipping the shelter with infrastructure, facilities, and veterinary services, with the dog housing process expected to start in about a month and a half after the completion of preparations.
The agreement aims to address the problem of increasing numbers of stray dogs on the city streets, which have become a source of health, social, and security concerns for the citizens.
The head of the municipality, Imad Al-Azzam, emphasized that the project is part of the municipality's plan to improve the quality of life in the city and deal with environmental and health challenges, explaining that it is "a practical and humane solution that contributes to enhancing the health and social security of citizens."
The shelter is expected to contribute to reducing dog populations and the spread of animal diseases, alongside improving the city's civilized appearance and promoting a culture of compassion towards animals.
