Khaberni - The Irbid Greater Municipality and Fikra Association signed a partnership agreement to establish and operate the first dog shelter in the Irbid governorate.
The Irbid Greater Municipality has provided the designated land for the project, while the association will be responsible for fully equipping the shelter with infrastructure, facilities, and veterinary services, with the dog sheltering process expected to begin about a month and a half after the completion of the preparations.
The agreement aims to address the problem of increasing numbers of stray dogs on the streets of the city, which have become a source of health, social, and security concerns for citizens.
The head of the municipality, Imad Al-Azzam, emphasized that the project is part of the municipality's plan to improve the quality of life in the city and address environmental and health challenges, explaining that it is “a practical and humane solution that contributes to enhancing the health and social security of citizens.”
The shelter is expected to contribute to reducing the dog population and limiting the spread of animal diseases, in addition to improving the city's civilized appearance and promoting a culture of animal compassion.
