Khaberni - SHOT channel on Telegram reported today that studies have shown that using headphones on one side only (especially in quiet environments) poses a risk to hearing.
The channel mentioned that human hearing is designed for stereo sound, and relying on mono sound (on one ear) is completely unnatural.
Excessive use of a single earphone might lead to severe consequences, such as ringing in the ears, and even unilateral sensorineural hearing loss. When one ear becomes deaf, the other eventually starts to degrade as well.
This risk also applies to people who use only one earphone or who wear headphones constantly, such as call center employees.
This risk can be reduced by keeping the volume of the earphone below the ambient noise level in the room.
According to the channel, hearing problems appear after about a year, but for some people, they may appear later.
