Khaberni - Diplomatic sources stated that the United States has put forth a draft resolution in the UN Security Council to lift the names of Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Khatib from the international sanctions list.
The sources added that the American draft resolution welcomes Syria's commitment to combating terrorism, including foreign fighters.
The draft resolution also welcomes Syria's commitment to ensuring the protection, safety, and security of all Syrians.
The text affirms the Security Council's commitment to respecting the sovereignty of Syria and the integrity of its territories, and to promoting stability and development within it.
The unveiling of the American draft resolution in the UN Security Council comes ahead of the planned meeting at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump and Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa next Monday.
It is noted that the United States, the European Union, and other countries earlier this year declared the lifting of sanctions on Syria.
Against the backdrop of violations by the ousted President Bashar al-Assad's regime in suppressing the Syrian revolution since 2011, the United States, the European Union, and other countries imposed sanctions on the Arab country, including asset freezing, stopping financial transactions, depriving it of technology, and banning dealings with its regime.
