Khaberni - In line with the vision and mission of the Faculty of Engineering at Amman Arab University and following the directives of Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Widian, the university president, and under the supervision of Dr. Anwar Al-Assaf, Dean of the Engineering Faculty, the students of the Architecture Engineering Department conducted an academic field visit to the designated project site for a multi-use building in the city of Al-Salt, as part of the Architectural Design (3) course.
The visit aimed to integrate the academic aspect with practical application, and to enhance the students' abilities in analyzing urban sites and discovering their environmental, social, and economic potentials, contributing to the establishment of sustainable design concepts. During the visit, the students studied and analyzed the environmental characteristics of the site and explored ways to utilize them to improve user experience and support local communities. They also looked at enhancing energy efficiency which positively reflects on local development in Al-Salt city. Furthermore, the students discussed the site's main strengths and weaknesses to ensure a comprehensive understanding of its design elements, focusing on the importance of preserving biodiversity and protecting the vegetation cover and wildlife in the area, through the observation and analysis of the natural environment components including plants, insects, and birds.
The visit also included a field study of water harvesting systems developed by local farmers for irrigation, as a practical model reflecting the spirit of innovation and sustainability in the local community facing water scarcity challenges and achieving sustainable development goals. Moreover, the students conducted direct interviews with several local community members including farmers, traders, municipal workers, and passers-by, aiming to understand their opinions and needs related to the proposed project for the community and cultural center, within the faculty's pursuit to reinforce the relationship between architecture, human, and place.
This visit is part of a series of activities organized by the Department of Architecture Engineering at Amman Arab University to prepare students and empower them to analyze architectural projects practically, and to enhance their ability to provide innovative design solutions based on a realistic understanding of user needs and functional standards.
