Khaberni - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization "FAO" warns of an unprecedented humanitarian and agricultural disaster in the Gaza Strip.

The organization confirmed in its annual report that only less than 5% of agricultural land remains arable, after more than 80% of the planted areas were destroyed due to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

It stated that about 70% of the agricultural plastic houses were completely destroyed, while the majority of wells were damaged, making access to water nearly impossible, leading to a near-complete collapse of the local production system within the strip.

It explained that Gaza has become fully dependent on humanitarian aid to secure its food needs, warning that the continued restrictions on the entry of agricultural supplies and fuel through the crossings will lead to widespread famine in the coming months.

It added that 90% of the population of Gaza are unable to obtain sufficient food, noting that the production of vegetables and grains dropped to less than half of its level two years ago, while the fishing sector suffered extensive destruction and ongoing restrictions that prevented its normal operation.

"FAO" classified the Gaza Strip among the worst four food crises in the world during the years 2024-2025, alongside Sudan, Yemen, and Afghanistan, calling for an emergency multi-sectoral response that includes food security, water, health, and psychological support, to avoid a complete humanitarian collapse in the sector.
