Khaberni - If you select your houseplants carefully this winter, you might not only add a touch of beauty to your home decor, but also help prevent the formation of toxic mold on walls, ceilings, and windows, alongside purifying the air from harmful elements.

With the decrease in temperatures, outside air becomes cooler than inside, leading to condensation on windows and walls, creating an ideal environment for mold growth, which not only spoils the appearance but may also cause serious health issues.

Plant expert Chris Bonnett from Gardening Express magazine tells the Daily Mail that the solution may be simpler than we expect, explaining

"If your windows are filled with steam, it means that humidity levels are high, and plants can help reduce it naturally."
Experts indicate that some plants are capable of absorbing moisture from the air through their leaves in a process scientifically known as "foliar absorption," which reduces the chances of condensation and mold growth.

But the benefits of plants don’t stop there; they also purify the air from carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis, which contributes to improving mood and quality of life inside the home.
In this regard, the Daily Mail has reviewed a collection of the best plants recommended for the winter season:

Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)

Characterized by its glossy leaves and white flowers, it is one of the most effective plants in absorbing moisture and purifying toxins like benzene and formaldehyde, although it is toxic to pets, so it is preferred to be placed in a bright room with indirect light.

English Ivy (Hedera helix)
It helps reduce airborne mold and improve air quality, but it requires careful handling because it is toxic to pets and may cause skin irritation. So it is preferred to be placed in a cool, moderately lit area, such as a bedroom.
Boston Fern

One of the best plants for damp rooms, as it reduces mold and filters pollutants. It requires regular watering and a moist environment, and thrives in the warm kitchen or living room.

Spider Plant

A pet-safe option that is easy to care for. It absorbs moisture and purifies the air from pollutants, and is preferred to be placed in the bathroom or kitchen.

Areca Palm

It helps balance moisture and purify the air, and is safe for pets. It grows in indirect light, and is advised to be watered weekly.

Snake Plant

A robust plant that withstands various conditions, known for its ability to absorb moisture and purify the air. It is preferred to be placed in the living room where there is bright indirect light.

Asplenium nidus "Crispy Wave"

With its wavy leaves, it is considered one of the strongest natural air purifiers and also helps balance moisture in shaded and damp places. It is suitable for bathrooms and kitchens and needs gentle regular watering.
