Khaberni - The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that food aid for roughly 42 million Americans will be reduced starting from November, due to the ongoing government shutdown which has entered its first month.

A Department of Agriculture official stated in court documents that the government will use $4.65 billion from the emergency fund to cover payments for the “SNAP” program, which is the largest public food aid program in the United States, noting that this amount will only cover about 50% of the aid allocated to eligible households.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture had planned to stop payments for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) on November 1st, citing a lack of funding due to the government shutdown.

The program supports one in every eight Americans, and it costs about eight billion dollars monthly.
