Ongoing Fear of Bugs Disrupts Classes for Students at a Jordanian School Video

Khaberni - Despite seven days having passed since the discovery of a bedbug infestation at Umm Salih Secondary School for Girls in Zarqa Governorate, several students still refuse to return to their classrooms, amid widespread anxiety among both parents and students, despite the actions taken by the Directorate of Education in cooperation with relevant authorities.

Despite the intense spraying and sterilization campaign conducted at the school building on Sunday evening, coordinated with the relevant authorities, a number of students refused to attend classes on Monday morning due to ongoing fears of the insect’s reappearance, especially after it was detected inside the school on Sunday.

The Director of Zarqa Second Education, Wael Abu Al-Fool, had previously decided to suspend classes at the school for three days, from 28th to 30th October, to carry out comprehensive pest control operations.

According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Mahmoud Hayasat, 14 out of 16 classes resumed as usual, while some students were absent due to continued fears about the ineffectiveness of the treatment.

The ministry announced a plan to compensate for the days during which classes were suspended, by designating the Saturdays of November 1st, 8th, and 15th as school days, while confirming that it will continue to monitor the situation inside the school with specialized field teams.

Parents demand a safe and healthy educational environment for their daughters, ensuring the complete eradication of causes for concern, emphasizing that mental peace is a fundamental requirement for the resumption of regular classes.
