Khaberni - The European Commission has adopted an additional funding package worth 80 million euros to support Jordan's efforts in hosting Syrian refugees, providing social assistance and basic services to the most vulnerable groups of refugees, and the host communities affected by the repercussions of displacement since the start of the Syrian crisis.
According to the decision issued by the Commission, this action aims to provide social protection and direct services to the most needy refugees, and to promote sustainable solutions for the displacement situation of refugees in Jordan, in line with European commitments and financial pledges announced during the ninth Brussels conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region.
The action comes in the context of what the European Commission described as "accelerated and unanticipated needs" related to recent developments in the Syrian crisis, the deterioration of social and economic conditions, the impacts of the war on Gaza, and the continued vulnerability of refugees and host communities in Jordan, and the decline in necessary funding from other sources.
The decision allows financial flexibility through the possibility of adjusting allocations by no more than 10 million euros or 20% of the funding value, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals in accordance with the standards of official development assistance, by providing protection and social services to the most vulnerable refugees and supporting sustainable solutions for refugee displacement in Jordan.
With the adoption of this additional funding, the total European funding announced for Jordan during this year rises to 173 million euros, including 93 million euros within the multi-year plan and 80 million euros under the special measure to support hosting Syrian refugees.
