Martyrdom of a Palestinian Prisoner in Occupation Jails

Khaberni - Several institutions for prisoners in Palestine announced the martyrdom of the prisoner Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Ghawadra (63 years old) from the town of Birqin in occupied Jenin, in the occupation’s jails on Sunday.

The occupation forces had arrested martyr Ghawadra in the year 2024, and since then he has been detained in Janot prison (formerly known as Nafha Rimmon). The martyr was arrested under harsh conditions, where he was denied medical care and necessary treatment despite suffering from chronic illnesses.

Martyr Ghawadra is the father of administrative detainee Sami, and father of the released prisoner exiled to Egypt, Shadi, who was freed as part of the "Wave of the Free" deal that occurred earlier this year.

The prisoner institutions confirmed that the martyrdom of prisoner Mohammed Ghawadra comes amidst the ongoing systematic incitement led by the occupation authorities, represented by Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is pushing for a law to execute prisoners and boasts about his crimes against them, while Palestinian prisoners face one of the most severe forms of total and ongoing genocide inside the occupation jails.

Increasing Attacks

The Prisoner's Club, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, and the Media Office of Prisoners have indicated that following the ceasefire agreement, the occupation’s prison administration has escalated its crimes and violations, with testimonies and statements from released prisoners providing compelling evidence of complex torture and field executions within the prisons, which were clearly reflected in the bodies of martyrs delivered as part of the agreement.

With the martyrdom of detainee Mohammed Ghawadra, the number of martyrs from the prisoner movement since the start of the genocide war has risen to 81, among those whose identities have been recognized, amid the ongoing crime of enforced disappearance affecting dozens of detainees.

The number of prisoners whose bodies are held by the occupation, before and after the war, has risen to 89, including 78 after the genocide war on Gaza.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had issued a decision a few days ago to continue preventing the International Red Cross from visiting Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.

Official Palestinian statistics indicate that Israel holds 9100 Palestinians in its prisons, including 400 children and 49 women.

Hamas Mourns

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) mourned the martyr prisoner Mohammed Hussein Ghawadra, stating in a declaration that this is "a new crime added to the black record of crimes committed by the occupation against our prisoners, in light of deliberate medical neglect, torture, and brutal treatment."

The movement also warned of "the dangers of the criminal approach of the occupation," calling on Palestinians "to intensify every possible effort to defend our brave prisoners, and to vindicate their oppressed status until they attain their freedom."

It also called on international and human rights institutions to take responsibility in confronting "these ongoing violations, and to work on prosecuting and holding the occupation accountable for its crimes and brutality."
