Agriculture begins preparing the foundations for importing olive oil

Khaberni - Khalil Amro, Assistant Secretary General for Marketing at the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed that the ministry is working on preparing the basis for granting import licenses for olive oil, and after that, these bases will be raised to the Minister of Agriculture for a suitable decision.

In turn, the Minister of Agriculture decided yesterday to allow every traveler to export two tins of olive oil for expatriates abroad, after the ministry had previously banned this due to low production.
The Ministry of Agriculture held a consultative meeting earlier including Secretary-General Engineer Mohammed Al-Hiyari, President of the General Union of Farmers Odeh Al-Rawashdeh, and the head of oil press owners Taysir Al-Najdawi, to monitor the reality of olive oil prices and study the production quantities for the current season, amidst market challenges and rising olive oil prices compared to previous seasons. They discussed the possible options to ensure market stability and protect the interests of both farmers and consumers.
The participants agreed to continue monitoring prices and production quantities, and if the price rise continues, they will open the door for the import of olive oil from different and reliable origins to cover the local market's olive oil needs.
