Khaberni - The spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that the assassination of the former head of the political office of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was not due to any internal sabotage act.
The spokesman added that Haniyeh was targeted with a missile launched from a certain distance, which directly hit the window and then settled in his body, noting that the strike occurred while Haniyeh was speaking on the phone and the missile came from the direction he was looking towards.
He explained that following the assassination, the Iranian National Security Council agreed on the necessity to respond, leaving the timing of the response to the Iranian armed forces.
He pointed out that the decision came after resolving the problems faced by the operation "Al-Waad Al-Sadeq 1," confirming that the "Martyr Hajizadeh Team" accomplished the equivalent of a full year's work within just two months between operations "Al-Waad Al-Sadeq 1 and 2."
It was announced the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh and his companion on July 31, following their participation in the inauguration ceremony of the Iranian President Masoud Bazishkian.
Haniyeh was one of the prominent leaders of Hamas, having served as the head of the political bureau of the movement, and he played a pivotal role in managing the political and military affairs of the movement in recent years.
