Khaberni - An Israeli man was charged on Sunday with spying for Iran and attempting to gather intelligence information about Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
In detail, Yosef Ain Eli (23 years old) was accused of providing sensitive information to Iranian intelligence agents in exchange for money, according to the Israeli site "Ynet".
About $3,100
This came after he was arrested in September following a joint investigation between the Shin Bet and the Lahav 433 serious crime unit of the police.
According to the indictment filed in the Be'er Sheva Central Court, Eli worked at a hotel near the Dead Sea and provided details about hotels and other tourist areas in southern Israel.
It is claimed that he received approximately 10,000 shekels (about $3,100 USD).
The charges include "contacting a foreign agent and executing missions on behalf of Iranian intelligence," as the prosecution alleges that Eli began cooperating with Iranian agents in late 2024 and was tasked with a series of additional missions, most of which were not carried out.
Among the tasks he was asked to perform were: collecting intelligence information about Ben Gvir, forming an agent network based in Israel, throwing a hand grenade at a private home, transferring information about criminal organizations, delivering identification data about Israeli soldiers, setting fire to vehicles, and taking photographs inside military bases.
In their response, the Shin Bet and the police issued a statement warning Israelis against any contact with "agents from hostile countries or unknown foreign entities".
Reserve soldier
It is noted that this case is the latest episode in a series of espionage cases related to Iran since the outbreak of the Gaza war.
Last month, another indictment was filed against Maor Kringel, a reserve soldier in the Israeli army accused of collecting intelligence information for Iran, including video clips of military bases.
It is also alleged that Kringel was offered 100,000 shekels to assassinate his commander, a task he ultimately did not carry out.
