Khaberni - The Greater Amman Municipality, through the Directorate of Developing Old Amman Neighborhoods, launched a specialized cultural and tourist event at the Amman Tourist Walkway "in the heart of Amman's capital", with participation from various entities from the public and private tourism sectors.

The course, which started from Al-Hussein Cultural Center to Jabal Al-Qala’a, included employees of the Greater Amman Municipality, Jordanian university students, associations, and the Tourism Promotion Authority.

The Executive Director for Amman Neighborhoods and Tourist Routes Projects, Engineer Mohammed Abu Zaitoon, stated that the Amman Heritage Walkway (Darb Amman) aims to introduce tourists, both local and foreign, to the downtown area of Amman as it is a region rich in heritage, culture, and history, making it a desirable and attractive tourist destination.

He pointed out that the Municipality has worked on constructing and rehabilitating sidewalks, removing encroachments, and placing guide signs along the route. Additionally, it prepared maps, booklets, and brochures about the route, and trained several Municipality staff members to lead tourist groups in cooperation with the Association of Tourist Guides, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, to achieve the Municipality's vision for the next five years, making Amman a tourist attraction hub.

Abu Zaitoon confirmed that the organization of the Amman Walkway event today came in cooperation with the Human Resources Directorate, aiming to acquaint as many employees of Amman Municipality as possible with the tourist path launched in the downtown area.

The event included the participants walking through the stations of Amman Walkway, in addition to visiting the rapid bus station, Al-Hammam Market, Al-Yemenia Market, Al-Bukharia Market, Al-Husseini Mosque, Burj Al Arab Hotel, Al-Hawariyat Fountain Building, the Roman theater, folk museums, Al-Odeim Building, and visiting the Jabal Al-Qala’a Museum and the Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic archaeological sites at Amman Castle at the end of the route.

The participants listened to a detailed explanation from Dr. Mohammad Wahib and Dr. Mahdi Al-Alamy, a specialist in archaeology, about the significance of the city of Amman throughout history.

The participants expressed their admiration for the civilizational heritage represented by the archaeological, tourist, and heritage sites, especially the viewpoints, and the future projects that the Municipality of Amman intends to carry out to develop the city's tourism to make Amman one of the distinctive and attractive cities in the tourism sector.

It is noteworthy that the Directorate of Developing Old Amman Neighborhoods conducts infrastructure works for tourist routes, in addition to documentation, scientific, and tourist publication, preparing maps and booklets, and preparing memorandums of understanding and cooperation with the public and private tourism sector.

It also uses electronic publishing and modern technologies to present tourist routes to local, Arab, and foreign visitors alike through the website "Amman Explorer."

It is worth noting that the Amman Walkway project was implemented in cooperation with the Jordan Tourism Board and the Tourism Sustainability Enhancement Project in Jordan, aiming to empower the city of Amman tourism-wise, and to develop its performance with a qualitative project, the "Walkway".
