France A woman is killed every 3 days by her current or former husband

Khaberni - The murder of women in France increased by 11% last year, with authorities recording 107 cases of women being killed by their husbands or former husbands.

According to data from the French Ministry of the Interior, 138 violent deaths were recorded within the family context, including 31 men in addition to the female victims.

The national study revealed that most of these crimes occurred mostly within the couple's shared home or the residence of the victim or the perpetrator, accounting for 90% of the cases. Perpetrators used bladed weapons in 49 cases and firearms in 34 cases.

The data indicated that disputes preceded 31% of the incidents, while 16% occurred in the context of one partner refusing to end the relationship.

The ministry recorded that 47% of the female victims had previously experienced violence they had reported to the security forces, with 81% of them filing formal complaints. The report mentioned that the “severe threat telephone” system protected only one victim, while only two benefited from protection orders, and one perpetrator was under judicial supervision.

The study noted that the majority of the perpetrators belong to the age group of 20-49 years, with a notable increase in crimes among those over 70 years old compared to the previous year.

The report confirmed that the typical perpetrator is usually a married man of French nationality and unemployed.
