Khaberni - The EcoHikers initiative organized an environmental event to clean a part of the Abu al-Sous forest located in west Amman as part of its continuous efforts to preserve the environment and promote the concept of ecotourism and introduce the beauty of Jordanian nature.
Abu al-Sous forest is one of the picturesque natural areas overlooking the West Bank, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and the area of Iraq Al-Amir. However, it suffers from large amounts of waste left by visitors and picnickers, which negatively affects the environment and the natural landscape.
The campaign was participated in by volunteers from Jordan and various other nationalities from around the world, where they worked in the spirit of one team to collect and sort waste, in an attempt to restore the forest to its natural splendor and encourage visitors to adopt responsible environmental behaviors. This event is part of a campaign launched by the initiative at the beginning of this summer, aiming to implement a series of activities that combine volunteering and ecotourism and support the local community in various regions of the kingdom.
Nader Al-Manaseer, founder of the EcoHikers initiative, said: “Through these initiatives, we aim to introduce Jordanians to the natural treasures of their country, and promote a culture of ecotourism and volunteer work, alongside spreading awareness about the importance of keeping picnic sites and forests clean due to their significant environmental and touristic value.”
The initiative also aims to build cultural communication bridges between Jordanians eager to learn the English language, and foreigners interested in learning the Arabic language, in addition to supporting the local community through direct interaction with residents of the areas visited by the initiative, via the interactive environmental marches organized after the cleaning activities, to be a space for cultural and knowledge exchange in a spirit of cooperation and friendship.
