Khaberni - The Japanese beverage company "Suntory" has launched a new type of functional drinking water said to help reduce belly fat, a move that has attracted the interest of both consumers and researchers alike.
The new product, named "Special Water," looks like ordinary mineral water, but it is officially classified in Japan under the category of "functional foods," which are products legally allowed to be promoted for their proven health benefits.
This innovation primarily targets office workers and people with irregular lifestyles and the associated accumulation of visceral fat, according to the "Oddity Central" website.
"Special Water" relies on HMPA acid, a natural compound derived from fermented rice bran, which clinical trials have shown contributes to improving fat distribution in the abdominal area for those with a high body mass index.
Despite its unique properties, the product retains the appearance and taste of ordinary water—clear, colorless, and tasteless, free of sugar, caffeine, and calories—and its 600 ml bottle is sold for 150 yen (about one dollar), making it affordable for most consumers.
