Khaberni - The UAE responded urgently through the Emirates Agency for International Aid in coordination with the Caribbean Agency for Emergency Management (CDEMA) to deliver urgent relief aid including essential food items and necessary shelter supplies to those affected by "Hurricane Melissa" that struck Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba, and to provide the necessary support for the infrastructure sector which experienced significant damage, aiming to ensure rapid early recovery and stabilization.
The UAE's urgent response stems from its humanitarian mission to quickly extend a helping hand, stand with the victims, and assist the needy, sick, and injured resulting from natural disasters, crises, and conflicts around the world, embodying the ethical and international responsibility that the state undertakes in solidarity with the affected countries and communities in such critical situations and emergent circumstances.
In this context, Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, the head of the Emirates Agency for International Aid, emphasized the UAE's commitment to its international humanitarian responsibilities through immediate response to crises, disasters, and emergencies, and assisting affected communities and peoples; providing all forms of support to achieve early recovery and ensure access to essential needs such as food, medicine, clothing, and shelter.
He noted that the UAE is a pioneer in implementing urgent humanitarian relief and response programs as a result of natural, environmental, or health disasters, or those ensuing from wars, conflicts, and armed disputes, highlighting that the Emirates Agency for International Aid provides essential relief materials and necessary shelter requirements and supports the infrastructure sector in coordination with international organizations especially the Caribbean Agency for Emergency Management to ensure rapid recovery and mitigate the effects of Hurricane "Melissa" on the peoples in Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba.
