Khaberni - The Iranian authorities announced that they have recorded November 30 in the official Iranian calendar as a national day for the three Iranian islands in the Gulf, disputed with the UAE and controlled by Iran.
This decision was made by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in Iran "to honor the memory of the restoration of Iranian sovereignty over these islands from the British occupation in 1971", and aims to "consolidate Iranian control over these islands (Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs)" which are the subject of a dispute with the United Arab Emirates, which claims sovereignty over them.
This national day comes as "an expression of the efforts of the Iranian navy in recovering the islands and memorializing the martyrs of the operation".
In contrast, Gulf countries, especially the UAE, reject what they call "the Iranian occupation" of the three islands and call for its end and for entering into direct negotiations, which increases the tension in the region concerning the ownership of these islands.
