Jordan The Judiciary Restores Disability Pension to a Multiple Sclerosis Patient After 13 Years

Khaberni - In a notable legal precedent, the Supreme Administrative Court issued a decision to cancel the decision of the Appellate Medical Committee of the Social Security Corporation, and reinstated the payment of the total natural permanent disability pension for a retired Jordanian suffering from multiple sclerosis, after a legal battle that lasted for more than 13 years.

The details of the case go back to the retiree's request in 2011, who had served between 1991 and 2004, for a disability pension, where the initial medical committee then decided that he suffered from a partial disability outside of service. Following a new review request in 2024, the security committees refused to classify his condition as a permanent total disability.

After a series of objections, the retiree appealed the decision of the Administrative Court before the Supreme Administrative Court, which found that the patient had a medical report since 2005 proving his multiple sclerosis condition, and the medical committees ought to have consulted with specialists in this chronic disease.

Based on this, the court cancelled the decision of the Medical Committee and restored the retiree’s right to the disability pension, considering that the reasons for the appeal were valid, emphasizing the importance of utilizing medical expertise in chronic and complex diseases to ensure justice.
