Khaberni - J.D. Vance, the U.S. Vice President, confirmed last Thursday that testing the American nuclear arsenal is important to ensure it works properly, and is a crucial part of the national security of the United States.

Vance's statement to journalists at the White House came after President Donald Trump ordered the military to resume nuclear weapons testing, after a halt of more than 30 years. However, Vance did not clarify the nature of the tests ordered by the president.

Vance said, "Ensuring that this nuclear arsenal we possess is indeed functioning properly is an important part of American national security." He clarified by saying, "We know it works properly, but we must continue to oversee this matter as time passes, and the president just wants to make sure that we are doing that."

The vice president referred to the large nuclear arsenals of the United States, Russia, and China, emphasizing that they sometimes need to be tested to ensure they are operating correctly, stressing that "the president's directive speaks for itself" regarding the nature of the tests.

Trump's decision to resume the tests followed the announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Moscow had successfully tested an underwater drone capable of carrying nuclear warheads, and a nuclear-powered cruise missile.

This announcement, which did not specify the nature of the tests, caused global concern.

For his part, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General said, "The Secretary-General has repeatedly stressed that current nuclear risks are extremely high and dangerous, and all actions leading to misjudgment or escalation should be avoided, with potentially grave consequences. Nuclear testing under any circumstances cannot be allowed."
