Khaberni - The Indian oil company "HPCL Mittal Energy" announced the suspension of its oil purchases from Moscow, two months after U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose sanctions on New Delhi for importing fuel from Russia.

At the end of August, Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Indian exports to the United States in response to New Delhi's purchase of Russian oil, which Washington considers a major source of funding for the Kremlin's war in Ukraine.

These sanctions have caused a severe deterioration in relations between India and the United States, who are negotiating a free trade agreement, according to the "Agence France-Presse".

Trump has repeatedly stated in recent days that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised him that India would cease purchasing Russian oil, a claim that New Delhi has refused to confirm.

The company "HPCL Mittal Energy," which includes the "Mittal" steel group and the state-owned "Hindustan Petroleum Limited," announced that it "decided to suspend its purchases of Russian oil".

India imports more than 85% of its crude oil needs, and while India traditionally imported oil from Middle Eastern countries, it has recently redirected its purchases towards its old ally Russia.
