A part on the car body that many do not know its function

Khaberni - Some cars include a "spoiler". Here, many wonder: Does this spoiler have practical benefits or does it simply give the car an attractive sporty touch?

To answer this question, the German magazine "Auto Zeitung" states that the car's spoiler, whether front or rear, is not just an attractive sporty touch. It has many benefits in terms of design and performance rates, especially with sports cars and hypercars.

The magazine's experts explained that the spoiler enhances the car's aerodynamic properties and improves driving behavior, increasing stability, especially at high speeds and when negotiating turns.

They noted that most spoiler units are made from lightweight, high-quality materials such as ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) or carbon fiber. Some companies also produce units from polypropylene plastic or polyurethane (PU).

The types of spoilers available in the market include the rear spoiler, which is mounted on the trunk lid of coupes and sedans.

There is also a roof-edge spoiler available for van cars, SUVs, and station wagons.

The front spoiler, also called the lip, ensures better air distribution at the front of the car, achieving better aerodynamic properties or increasing air in the engine compartment for cooling.

There are also spoilers located on the side of the car and on the corners of the bumper or on the sills and fenders. This type aims to direct the air around the car to reduce resistance, and there are sill spoilers to prevent dirt from the wheels from reaching the doors, in addition to their role in enhancing the car's dynamics.

Accessory stores and tuning companies offer custom spoiler units alongside standard units for almost all car categories like sports, van, and multi-purpose sports SUVs.

Usually, units installed through accessory stores are only suitable for enhancing the sporty appearance of the car; they often do not meet other standards, which require specific design specifications tailored to each model.

Most rear spoiler units on the car are attached with a special strip to the body or adhesive materials. Some models require screws to be installed at specific locations.

The term spoiler and rear wing are used interchangeably, although each has different characteristics and functions. The spoiler faces the air from one side, while the rear wing faces the air from both the top and bottom sides.

Thus, the wing stands on a support, while the spoiler rests directly on the body of the car, and the wing works with higher precision and targeted air direction.
