Khaberni - The Iraqi capital Baghdad witnessed a tragic incident that caused widespread shock, after a woman committed the act of violently abusing her seven-year-old son until he died, before the security forces could immediately arrest her.
Reports revealed that the woman, born in 1993, abused her son, born in 2018, within their home in the Arab Jubour area of the Doura district in southern Baghdad.
It was explained that the incident occurred after a series of severe beatings the child was subjected to, resulting in severe wounds that led to his death during his transfer to the hospital.
A security force moved to the site of the incident immediately upon receiving the report and succeeded in arresting the mother, who was then provisionally detained in a holding center pending the completion of the investigations.
The authorities began their legal procedures to ascertain the motive and precise circumstances of the crime, amid calls for accountability for the perpetrators of domestic violence crimes.
The incident also reopened the discussion on the phenomenon of domestic violence in Iraq, especially with the repetition of similar incidents in recent months, amid calls for stricter deterrent laws and enhancing community awareness to protect children from violations within homes.
