Khaberni - Interior Minister, Mazen Al-Faraya, confirmed that national security represents the backbone of state stability, and that security is the most important state investment, despite its high cost, pointing out that enhancing community awareness is a fundamental step in maintaining it and reducing its cost.
In a lecture he delivered at the Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Jordan titled: "The Ministry of Interior and Jordanian National Security," Al-Faraya revealed the human face of the ministry, and its role in maintaining national security and enhancing the country's sovereignty," emphasizing that the community's cooperation with security agencies forms a strong shield to ensure stability.
In the lecture, the Minister of Interior discussed various issues related to the current regional challenges faced by Jordan, including the nature of the region it is in and the surrounding areas, whether they are stable or volatile, noting that it represents the biggest challenge for Jordan, in addition to other challenges such as drug smuggling across the borders, infiltration attempts, and poverty and unemployment, all of which affect national security.
He clarified that maintaining the cohesion of the national fabric could pose a major challenge if community awareness is not available, emphasizing that national security is a shared responsibility between the security agencies and the community, and that awareness of the community's interest and its individuals is the way to ensure Jordan's stability, making the national fabric with its cohesion a source of strength.
Al-Faraya urged the students to be aware of their role in positive participation in the community, to preserve national achievements, and to have an effective impact rather than being a burden on it, and to create their own work opportunities and develop their skills, alongside their university studies, noting that early awareness contributes to achieving success faster and better.
Al-Faraya began his lecture by talking about the strategy of the Ministry of Interior, which he refers to as "the sovereign ministry" concept for maintaining Jordanian national security, noting that state sovereignty encompasses three aspects: borders, the role of individuals in the state, and the sovereignty of internal decision-making, all of which are entrusted to the Ministry of Interior.
He also touched on the various tasks that are the responsibility of the ministry, tightly linked to everything related to Jordan in various fields whether health, economic, or social, in addition to its responsibility over the security and executive apparatus in all the governorates of the kingdom, and also the nature of its work roles that fall within three axes; security, administration, and development.
In his talk, Al-Faraya highlighted the role of the Ministry of Interior in economic affairs, launching economic initiatives that were instrumental in revitalizing the economic situation in the country, saying that there were decisions made, simple though they may be, but they resulted in positive and effective outcomes for the country, citing the introduction by the ministry of three-year travel visas, and the granting of Jordanian citizenship through an investment gateway in Jordan, pointing out that the number of investors who obtained Jordanian citizenship reached 592, and also allowing Syrian siblings coming from Syria and from European countries to come to Jordan, forming a meeting point for them through tourist offices, which contributed to increasing the tourist income for those offices and overall boosting the economic movement.
At the end of the lecture, Al-Faraya answered a series of questions and inquiries posed by the audience, closely related to the concept of security and maintaining national security, and the series of executive measures carried out by the security agencies towards citizens.
The Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammad Khair Ayedat, in his intervention, referred to the Jordanian citizen's view of security and security agencies, and where the strength of Jordanians, which they take pride in, comes from, confirming that despite the long history of the Jordanian state and what it has gone through of ordeals and challenges, the Jordanian state, thanks to the wisdom of its Hashemite leadership, has managed to preserve itself, becoming an "exceptional" state amidst a region inflamed with wars and political conflicts.
Ayedat emphasized that the security and military axes are fundamental in shaping the Jordanian state and propelling it forward among various other countries, for they form the backbone of state preservation amidst internal conditions and external changes.
