Khaberni - The Central Bank of Argentina revealed on Wednesday a commemorative coin in honor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals that immortalizes the famous goal by the late Diego Maradona in the goal against England during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The face of the limited-edition silver coin features a soccer ball, while the back depicts Maradona's attack which started from the middle of his half, where he dribbled past five players and scored the "Goal of the Century" in the quarterfinals.

During the same match, Maradona, wearing the number 10 jersey, scored another goal with his hand that stayed in memory, before leading his team towards winning the second title in their history.

The Central Bank explained that 2500 copies of this commemorative coin, weighing 27 grams and with a diameter of 40 mm, have been issued to be offered in the local market, adding that "gold pieces with a similar design have also been minted and will be available for sale internationally".

The release of the coin triggered negative reactions on social media, as the Central Bank's post did not mention Maradona's name.

One user on the X platform wrote, "A very nice initiative, but why was the goal scorer not mentioned?", while another jokingly commented: "The social media account manager dodged Maradona's name as Diego dodged the English."
