Khaberni - In a statement of great importance, the Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, warned on Wednesday of the major risks represented by "Gaza slipping into chaos".
His warning was not limited to security chaos, but also included the direct consequences, represented by "disrupting the plans of relief, recovery, and reconstruction" awaited by the residents of the sector.
During his speech, Dr. Mustafa expressed his deep concern about the factor of time, pointing to "the decline in momentum and international interest" in the Palestinian cause.
The Prime Minister directly linked this decline to the delay in the unified Palestinian stance, asserting that this momentum diminishes "with each day that the Palestinian consensus on unifying state institutions is delayed".
He emphasized that this delay in "unifying the institutions" is what hampers "empowering the State of Palestine" from "fulfilling its" full and moral "duty towards our people in the sector" who face extremely complex humanitarian circumstances.
No chaos and no "relief situation"
These strong and direct statements came in "the opening of the weekly government meeting", where the Prime Minister set the record straight regarding the next phase.
Mustafa mentioned that "the Palestinian people have paid a heavy price over two years of killing and displacement".
The Prime Minister strongly emphasized that "this price must not end" in catastrophic results that undermine the sacrifices. He clarified that this heavy price "should not lead to chaos" or result in "arrangements that endorse the status quo" that the occupation tries to impose.
Dr. Mustafa also warned of the danger of reducing the entire Palestinian cause, affirming that these sacrifices should not ultimately lead to "turning our cause into just a relief situation", which would make it lose its political and national depth.
National stance to empower the government
Instead of chaos, Mustafa emphasized that "what is required at this critical time is a clear and honest national stance". He explained that this stance must be unified "and counter to the Israeli occupation's decisions", which aim to divide the land and weaken the authority.
In this context, "the Prime Minister called for the necessity of empowering the government" he heads "to fully perform its role on the ground in Gaza". He explained that this empowerment is the only way "to implement its plans for relief, recovery, reconstruction, and restoring stability".
Mustafa pointed out that these government plans do not arise from a vacuum, but "enjoy the support of the international community" and at the same time are supported by "our people in the sector alike", which gives them dual legitimacy (international and popular) to carry out their tasks.
Demands to stop the occupation's actions
"On the international level", Mustafa not only directed messages to the Palestinian interior but "called on the international community" to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and "compel Israel to stop its assaults", whether ongoing "in Gaza Strip or the West Bank including Jerusalem".
"And the" Prime Minister confirmed that the unilateral Israeli measures "continue to undermine the work of state institutions on all levels". He detailed these undermining actions, pointing out that they include "the continued full confiscation of Palestinian tax revenues", which financially strangles the government.
He added that this undermining also represents "explicit refusal by the occupation authorities to restore our role in the sector and unify the two parts of the nation", in addition to "preventing and disrupting the steps to materialize the Palestinian state" on the ground, in blatant violation of international legality resolutions.
