The police opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death accurately, and a security advisor at Karachi University stated that all university buildings are safe, with no damages recorded inside the campus, confirming that the fire was confined to the grassy areas and nearby shelters.
Khaberni - The city of Karachi in Pakistan witnessed a massive fire on Tuesday evening, which erupted in the bushes behind Karachi University, resulting in the death of one person and causing damage to several shelters and temporary residences scattered in the area.
According to Pakistan's "The News" newspaper on Wednesday, rescue teams managed to retrieve the body of a 51-year-old man during the search operations conducted after the fire was brought under control.
The authorities clarified that the victim, a father of four children and a welder by profession, died of asphyxiation while trying to escape from the site of the fire, which broke out near residential apartments behind the university. The fire spread quickly due to strong winds and dry conditions to open areas and adjacent temporary shelters, before firefighters were able to control it after hours of continuous effort.
A rescue service official confirmed that the rapid response helped prevent the spread of the fire to more densely populated areas, noting that several residences near the site of the incident were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
