The Eclipse of the Century Coming Soon to Egypt

Khaberni - In a rare astronomical event, Egypt will witness on August 2, 2027, the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century, where the day will plunge into complete darkness for more than 6 minutes, dubbed the "Eclipse of the Century" by local media.

A total eclipse occurs when the Moon aligns perfectly between the Earth and the Sun, completely blocking its light, allowing the glowing solar corona to appear. Although the Sun is about 400 times larger than the Moon, their respective distances from Earth make their apparent sizes similar, providing us with a rare visual spectacle that is seldom repeated.

The city of Luxor is one of the best locations in the world to witness this historic event, as it will experience the longest total eclipse stretching to a full 6 minutes at 1:00 PM.

Siwa Oasis ranks second, where it will witness more than 5 minutes of total eclipse, while Edfu and Kom Ombo will offer a full view of the phenomenon.

NASA Participation
International astronomical institutions, including NASA, are expected to participate in monitoring and documenting the eclipse from Egypt, with a global live broadcast from local observatories. Total solar eclipse | Al-Qafilah magazine

This eclipse represents a valuable opportunity for scientists to study the solar corona, the outer layer of the Sun, and coronal mass ejections, thanks to its duration that exceeds twice the usual duration of most previous eclipses.
