Syrian Defense Minister Visits Moscow

Khaberni - The Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that Minister Andrei Belousov held talks with his Syrian counterpart Marhaf Abu Qasrah in Moscow, indicating that the two sides discussed "the practical application of promising areas of bilateral cooperation."

The Syrian Defense Ministry’s media office said that Defense Minister Major General Engineer Marhaf Abu Qasrah and his accompanying delegation met his Russian counterpart Andrei Belousov in the Russian capital Moscow, and during the meeting, a number of joint military issues were discussed in a way that serves the interests of both countries.

Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar` visited Moscow in mid-October and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, pledging to abide by all agreements previously signed between the two countries.

During the meeting between the two presidents, Putin said that cooperation between Russia and Syria will bring good results for both countries, emphasizing that relations between Moscow and Damascus have been strong for over 80 years.

Moscow has been a major supporter of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad throughout his quarter-century rule, intervening with its forces on his behalf starting in 2015, and particularly through airstrikes, has turned the tide in his favor on various fronts in the field, and he fled to it following the rebels' entry into the capital Damascus on December 8th last year.
