Khaberni - The Iranian president, Masoud Bazeshkiyan - whose country is under the pressure of international sanctions that undermine its economy - proposed the creation of a unified regional currency to boost trade exchanges, according to what the Iranian presidency reported on Tuesday.
Bazeshkiyan said during his meeting in Tehran with the Interior Minister of Tajikistan: "A common currency can be adopted in the region to contribute to economic development. Unfortunately, foreigners try to prevent the emergence of such good relations."
The international sanctions, particularly those imposed by the United States due to the Iranian nuclear program, are the main obstacle to Iran's financial and trade exchanges with the rest of the world.
These sanctions have significantly affected the Iranian economy and the rial, which continues to decline against the dollar, leading to rampant inflation.
The Iranian president added - as conveyed by the Iranian presidency during the Economic Cooperation Organization summit - "Thanks to the religious and cultural ties among the countries of the region, favorable conditions can be created for communication and overcoming obstacles."
He added, "Unfortunately, foreigners try to prevent the emergence of such good relationships, and they seek to incite discord among Muslims and people of the region in various ways; if we are united, we will be strong, but if we are divided, we will be weak," according to what the Mehr Iranian Agency reported.
The Iranian president described the Economic Cooperation Organization as a bridge that connects the countries of the region, adding that this organization is a valuable platform for dialogue, exchange of expertise, and synergy in all areas, according to what the IRNA Iranian Agency reported.
He affirmed that regional cooperation within the framework of the organization is no longer a political choice but has become a necessity for achieving development, security, and stability in the region.
