Khaberni - The Executive Director of Agriculture and Forestry at the Amman Municipality, engineer Mueen Zureikat, revealed the launch of a new system after obtaining approval from the Prime Minister's office and the Legislation Bureau, which includes deterrent instructions and penalties to reduce tampering and vandalism affecting forest wealth and public properties in parks and recreational areas.
Zureikat stated during a radio intervention that the public health units in parks are frequently subjected to tampering and poor practices, forcing the municipality's staff to replace parts and materials daily or almost daily, which poses a significant burden.
He added that currently, 10 parks are closed due to the maintenance of their sanitary facilities, which are not up to standard for the citizens or the Amman Municipality due to ongoing vandalism.
He clarified that a large number of parks did not have sanitary facilities, noting that annually, the municipality works on establishing sanitary units and guard rooms in 5-6 parks, pointing out that about 25 to 30 parks still lack sanitary facilities, and work is being done gradually to equip them.
Zureikat emphasized that the parks and their sanitary facilities are designated to serve the citizens for free and no fees will be imposed on them, calling on citizens to cooperate in preserving them and preventing tampering.
He revealed that the municipality has 141 parks, of which 75 are currently not up to standard for the citizens, indicating that maintenance and rehabilitation campaigns have already been launched, whether through the internal staff of the municipality or through tendering.
He explained that there are between 8 and 10 parks that require rehabilitation according to the park rehabilitation program as part of the Amman Municipality's strategy for the years 2022 to 2026.
