Khaberni - A young Azerbaijani woman named Leyaman Mamadli, 19 years old, ended her life days after her wedding, following severe criticism from her husband's family about her dress, which they described as "indecent" and "revealing".
The tragedy began when a dispute erupted inside the bride's father's house in Mingachevir, north of Azerbaijan, right after the wedding ceremony, when the groom's parents attacked their son's wife over her dress that exposed her shoulders, considering it a "disgrace" to the family.
The girl’s father, Murad Bayramov, stated to local media, "They accused her of looking naked on her wedding day, and they attacked us inside the house. My daughter could not bear the insult and the accusations and ended her life in our home’s garden."
The father added that the disputes continued the next day, as the groom's family accused the bride of bringing "disgrace upon their son," noting that his daughter was psychologically devastated due to the pressure and insults she faced.
He vehemently denied rumors that she was forced into a marriage with an older man, confirming that the marriage was with her consent to the young man Elnur Mamdli, 33. He explained that the groom did attend the funeral but "was expelled from the wake along with his family," he said.
The authorities are currently investigating the incident, amid demands for a criminal case related to the bullying and psychological pressure the bride faced before her death.
