Khaberni - An infant met his death in a tragic accident in the Russian village of Vasilyevo, after his 5-year-old sister threw him from a fourth-floor window from a height of 12 meters (40 feet), according to local authorities.
The incident occurred after the children were left alone at home by their mother, while their father was at work.
A passerby reported hearing the young girl's screams from the apartment window, before the infant was found lifeless on the ground.
Witnesses described the scene as shocking, confirming that "their knees buckled" from the horror of the sight. Emergency teams confirmed the death of the 21-day-old infant at the scene, as reported by the "Mirror" newspaper.
Investigations and Accountability
The Russian Investigative Committee announced the opening of a criminal case regarding the incident, while authorities are investigating the circumstances of its occurrence.
The authorities explained that the mother might face criminal charges, as investigators are considering whether the young girl's actions stemmed from "jealousy" of the new baby.
The investigation also includes reasons for leaving the children unattended, and whether other factors contributed to this tragedy.
Authority Warnings
In turn, the official of the Zelenodolsk district, Mikhail Afanasyev, said: "The incident is currently being investigated by law enforcement authorities. I offer my condolences to the family of the deceased and urge all parents to be cautious and not to leave their children alone under any circumstances."
