Khaberni - In a touching incident, a hospital in Florida, USA witnessed a medical miracle after a dog helped a woman in her forties wake up from a coma that lasted for weeks after a severe health crisis almost took her life.
"Memorial West" Hospital in Pembroke Pines celebrated the significant improvement in the condition of the patient, Priscilla Timmons (39 years old), during a press conference, according to "People" magazine.
The details of the incident go back to March 13, when Timmons sent a text message to her mother from her home bathroom asking for help, before she lost consciousness due to a severe pulmonary embolism causing three cardiac arrests and failure in multiple organs. According to a GoFundMe page set up for her, doctors estimated Timmons' chances of survival at only 10% after the third cardiac arrest.
Dr. Daniel Mayer, head of critical care at Memorial Healthcare System, confirmed that the patient's condition was extremely critical, saying, "In intensive care, the heart stopped, but our team refused to give up, and despite no cardiac activity for about 40 minutes, they managed to restore heart function."
Timmons faced a challenging 21-day treatment journey in the hospital, suffering from deterioration in organ functions and mobility issues, necessitating her placement in a medical coma.
The radical transformation in her condition occurred when the Golden Retriever, "Scrunchie," approached her bed during a therapy visit. The team's coordinator placed a food treat next to her inactive hand, and the dog began to move his nose and touch her hand trying to reach the food. At that moment, Timmons managed to move her fingers for the first time and raise her hand in the air.
Timmons, who confirmed that she could hear voices around her despite being unable to move, said, "I realized I was in a coma, and I was surprised by the brain's ability to hear despite the loss of consciousness. But when I felt the dog's claw, it spurred me to move with all the strength I had."
Upon leaving the hospital, Timmons pledged to continue living with a new spirit, noting that what happened with her "miracle" should not be wasted. She runs a store on Etsy and has launched an Instagram account named "Faith Flows Strong" to raise awareness about the dangers of blood clots, adding, "Faith and medicine go together; science heals us, and faith gives us hope."
