Khaberni - His Majesty King Abdullah II met on Monday with officials and representatives from the industrial sector to discuss ways to enhance the sector's role in economic growth.
The industrial sector contributes about 23% of the gross domestic product, and provides more than 262,000 job opportunities, with Jordanians occupying about 80% of these positions.
During the meeting held at the Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty emphasized the importance of continuing to implement the initiatives of the economic modernization vision related to the industry, pointing out the need to increase the contribution of national industries in local markets and tenders.
His Majesty also stressed the importance of the sector adopting a more diverse and flexible export strategy to deal with market fluctuations, calling for the opening of new markets for Jordanian industries.
During the meeting, which was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, His Majesty highlighted the need to directly link vocational education to the industrial market's needs.
The value of local industrial exports reached 8.6 billion dinars in 2024, with Jordanian products reaching more than 155 global markets.
During the meeting, representatives from leading companies in the manufacturing of packaging materials, cosmetics, food and beverage industries, and medical supplies talked about their experiences in expanding their companies' operations in the Jordanian market and exporting products.
The meeting was attended by the Director of His Majesty's Office, Engineer Alaa Batayneh, and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah.
