After being accused of smuggling antiquities Abbas refers Governor Nazmi Muhanna to retirement

Khaberni - President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decision, published in the official gazette, to refer Governor Nazmi Muhanna to retirement.

The decree states in its first article the referral of Governor Nazmi Abdel Qader Ahmad Muhanna to retirement, while the second article requires all relevant authorities to implement the provisions of this decree within their respective jurisdiction, effective from its date of issue.

At the beginning of the current month, Nazmi Muhanna, the head of the Palestinian Authority for Crossings and Borders, was dismissed from his position, causing widespread controversy in Palestinian circles, particularly as it came about two weeks (at the time) after news circulated about his involvement in a smuggling antiquities case.

The authority denied in an official statement issued on September 22nd last year, the local media's claims about Muhanna's arrest, affirming that what was reported were merely "false rumors", and that he was still in his position at that time.

A Palestinian security source revealed at the beginning of the month that the public prosecution specializing in corruption crimes summoned Muhanna, who was abroad, in addition to 15 other people, including his wife, seven of his sons and daughters, among them his son, the Palestinian ambassador to Albania, Sami Muhanna, alongside his brother, his escort, four employees in the accounting department at the crossings, and a businessman, to investigate the case.
