Former Deputy Zaid AlAtoum Responds to Statement by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mazen AlQadi

Khaberni - Former Deputy and lawyer, Zaid Al-Atoum, responded to the statement by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Pasha Mazen Al-Qadi, who called on Jordanians to "discipline themselves to the rhythm of the state movement and to be a support rather than a burden", considering the statement unfortunate and conflicting with the spirit of the political modernization project.

Al-Atoum said in a post on his Facebook page: "With respect to Pasha's person, but if this statement is accurate, it is unfortunate. It is true that Jordanians should bear their responsibilities in line with the public interest, but who determines the state's pace? Is it the government that dictates what should be and the citizen only follows? Is it a one-sided relationship without space for critique or participation?"

Al-Atoum added, questioning: "Has the citizen become a burden unless they follow the state’s guardianship? Unfortunately, this statement conflicts with the spirit of the political modernization project, and while it might have been intended patriotically, it reflects more authoritarianism than inclusivity."

Earlier, the speaker of the House of Representatives, "Mazen Al-Qadi", had stated: "It is incumbent upon Jordanians to discipline themselves to the rhythm of the state's movement, and to be a support rather than a burden."

This debate comes at a time when the Jordanian political arena is witnessing extensive discussions about the concepts of political modernization, enhancing popular participation, and the role of the citizen in shaping national policy.
