Malaysia Announces Its Readiness to Send Peacekeeping Forces to Gaza

Khaberni - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his country's willingness to participate in a UN peacekeeping mission in the Gaza Strip in cooperation with like-minded states and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

This was stated during his meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on the sidelines of the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Anwar Ibrahim confirmed in a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office: "Malaysia has reiterated its firm stance supporting the Palestinian struggle, and welcomed the consistent position of the United Nations and the decision by the International Court of Justice which recognized that the Israeli blockade of humanitarian aid in Gaza constitutes a violation of international law."

He added that the meeting with Guterres also aimed to enhance cooperation between Malaysia and the United Nations, including the ASEAN-UN partnership.

According to media reports, the Trump administration is considering the possibility of forming an international force that includes Egypt, Indonesia, and the Arab Gulf states, while ruling out sending American troops to Gaza. It has not yet been clarified whether the Arab countries or others are prepared to participate on the ground in this force, amidst Israeli reservations about its composition.
