Jordan Prison for two doctors after the death of a patient

Khaberni - The Jordanian court specialized in medical errors issued a decision to imprison two doctors for 6 months in a private hospital, after the death of a patient due to medical errors committed by the medical team.

The patient entered the hospital for a polyp removal procedure, and the two doctors performed the operation after anesthetizing the deceased. The operation lasted for two hours and went smoothly.

Upon completing the operation, and during the recovery from anesthesia, the deceased suffered from difficulty in breathing and episodes of cardiac arrest, ultimately leading to the patient's death, resulting in legal prosecution.

The five-member supreme medical committee specialized in medical errors clarified that the errors made by the doctors were due to a lack of precaution, failing to take a complete medical history of the case, not performing a comprehensive clinical examination, and not consulting a cardiologist.

After the medical report, the court found that there was medical negligence that caused the death, and sentenced the doctors to 6 months in prison, subject to appeal and cassation.

The law indicates that the penalty for medical errors causing death ranges from six months to three years, and may be doubled if the doctor was under the influence of a narcotic or cognitive enhancer, while disciplinary dismissal of the doctor by the syndicate is considered if the judgment concerns issues related to honor or professional competence.
