Can Eczema Be Controlled Through Diet

Khaberni - Eczema refers to a group of inflammatory conditions that cause dry skin, itching, flaking, and the appearance of bumps, the most common form of which is atopic dermatitis.

While the exact cause of this troublesome condition is medically unknown, experts suspect it involves a combination of factors, including genetic and environmental ones, such as food.

The National Eczema Association acknowledges that diet is linked to many aspects of health, "including the skin".

Allergies and food... a complex relationship
However, Dr. Peter Leo, Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at Northwestern University, says researchers no longer believe food allergies cause eczema.

He adds, "We now know that eczema primarily comes" before food.

According to "Medical Express", an allergic response can occur when irritated skin allows food proteins to penetrate the natural skin barrier.

Dr. Leo explains that the role of diet in treating eczema is complex: "Although there's a close link between eczema and food allergies, there is no single food or diet pattern that alleviates this condition."

Nevertheless, if a certain food consistently exacerbates your eczema each time you consume it, you should avoid it, he says.

Foods that reduce inflammation
More importantly, remember that eczema is an inflammatory condition, "there are nutrients that help reduce inflammation in the body (and on the skin), and they are found in foods that also promote the health and diversity of gut bacteria.

Fruits and vegetables, for example, are rich in dietary fiber and vitamin C, and antioxidants that protect against inflammation.

Vitamin E and omega fatty acids found in nuts and salmon, among other fatty fish and avocados and olive oil, are anti-inflammatory, as well as zinc found in seafood and lean meats and whole grains and probiotics found in yogurt, and other fermented foods, help fight inflammation.
